GOTD

I do believe I'm gonna have to rethink my Gripe of the Day (GOTD) plan as I am no longer any good at keepin' this here blog o' mine updated on a daily, or even a regular, basis. So from now on, GOTD is just gonna have to be renamed Gripe of the Week/Month/Whatever (GOTW/M/WE).

So on that note:

My current GOTW/M/WE is none other than yer typical local public transportation, but more specifically, public buses and the people who ride 'em. Now, I may have already bitched about this but today it irked me so damn much that I just hadda reiterate my feelin's.

First of all, most of us know that on December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Mrs. Rosa Parks, age 42, refused to obey the bus driver's order that she give up her seat to make room for a white passenger. In Montgomery, the first four rows of bus seats were reserved for white people. Buses had "colored" sections for black people which were generally in the rear of the bus. These sections were determined by the placement of a movable sign. Black people could sit in the middle rows until the white section was full. Then they had to move to seats in the rear, stand, or, if there was no room, leave the bus. Black people were not allowed to sit across the aisle from white people. The driver also could move the "colored" section sign, or remove it altogether. If white people were already sitting in the front, black people could board to pay the fare, but then had to disembark and reenter through the rear door. There were times when the bus departed before the black customers who had paid made it to the back entrance.

Out-fuckin'-rageous I say.

But why then, I ask, do today's young (and even some older) African Americans more or less always walk to the REAR of the bus to go sit down? Do they not know about their history or the story of Rosa Parks? I myself take a bus twice a day and every damn day its the same friggin' thing. If there's no room at the back of the bus and they are initially forced to sit up front, they will wait until a rear seat becomes available and will change seats mid-ride. They ALL seem to wanna congregate at the back of the bus. I could MAYBE understand the mindset of some REAL OLD black folk who do this simply outta habit, but what excuse does the younger generation of African Americans have?

I just don't get it. All those years black folk suffered with segregation and the general rotten mistreatment by white folk and NOW they wanna go backwards?

WTF is up with that shit? Anybody out there gotta clue? Cuz I sure don't.
